Over
72 years ago, Curtis B. Johnson, former owner and publisher of the Charlotte Observer, fulfilled his vision by founding the Observer Fresh Air Camp, Inc. now known as YMCA
Camp Thunderbird.

Through the use of
natural surroundings and
Christian support and
leadership, he felt each boy and girl could achieve his or her fullest
potential in mental
development, physical
well being, social growth and spiritual
awareness.
Mr. Johnson frequently related to associates the
great thrill he received in providing youth the
opportunity to develop in a camp setting.
The "Send a Kid to Camp" Campership, Scholarships, are designed to provide underprivileged children
meaningful camp opportunities.
Camp
opens new doors for children to make friends, to develop nurturing relationships with counselors and to discover
courage in areas they
never dreamed possible.

Many of these children would not have this wonderful opportunity without the
generous support of caring individuals,
compassionate parents, committed businesses and
considerate organizations.
Discover the
joy of giving a child in need an opportunity of a lifetime! Help to make the
dream of going to camp a
bright reality! Please help
"Send a Kid to Camp" by donating to our Campership Campaign.
