Health and Safety
While fun is a high priority, safety is the highest. We take your child’s health and safety very seriously and exceed top industry standards in all areas of our camp operation including facilities, dining, staff and programming. We are ACA (American Camping Association) accredited and our 8:1 camper-to-counselor ratio promotes an environment that helps children grow in spirit, mind, and body.
Staff We hire the highest quality staff to mentor and lead your children. Our staff is trained in First Aid/CPR. We screen each applicant with an in-depth interview, multiple reference checks and background checks by state and national authorities. Only the most qualified and compassionate staff is selected to serve at Thunderbird and reflect our five key character traits of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty and faith.
Land & Water Activities
Safety is a major focus in all activities. For land activities, staff is trained on safety and instructional methods by professional organizations such as the Camp Archery Association, Association of Challenge Course Technology, and the American Camping Association. Children are required to wear Coast Guard approved life jackets at all times while participating in lake activities and they wear swim bands (denoting their swim ability) while swimming at camp.
