What happens at Overnight?
This is my child's first time at Camp Thunderbird. What advice can you give me?
• Dress for the weather. The camp day will continue rain or shine.
• Have your camper wear comfortable play clothes.
• Send a lunch, swimsuit, towel and water bottle in a backpack every day.
• Label all items (swimsuit, towel, water bottle, lunch box, backpack, etc.) with camper's name.
• There are more activities at camp than your child will be able to participate in during a one-week session. If your child was unable to do all the activities he or she wanted, encourage your camper to look forward to another session.
How does pick-up and drop-off work?
• Please bring your children to camp from 7:30 - 8:30 AM. Opening Ceremony begins promptly at 8:30 AM.
• Staff will meet you as you drive in and lead your child to their group.
• Each camper is signed in and out daily by a parent, guardian or their designee.
• Parents will need to provide the code word they put on the registration form to pick up their child.
• Early Pick-Up - If you need to pick up your camper early, please give a note to the counselor at check-in or call ahead. We will have your camper waiting for you at the camp office.
• Normal pick-up time is from 5:00 - 6:00 PM.
Does the camp provide lunch?
The camp has a purchase lunch option. Camp will provide a nutritious lunch for you child for $35 per week. Campers must sign up and pay for lunch at least one week prior to the session they are attending.
Lunch Order Form
Campers can bring their own non-refrigerated lunch, including a drink. Please do not bring milk or mayonnaise-based products. A small cooler (marked with the camper's name) works best for packing lunches and drinks. A frozen water bottle is recommended. Water fountains are located throughout the camp.
What should my child bring to camp?
LUNCH - Send lunch in a cooler with your camper's name on it. You also have the option to purchase lunch. Lunch Order Form (Link)
CLOTHING - Have your camper wear comfortable play clothes, socks and shoes (no sandals or crocs). Dress for the weather; the camp day will continue rain or shine.
SWIMSUIT - Swimwear should provide complete coverage, fasten securely and be designed for active wear. Two piece suits are allowed if they have one tie, accompanied by another fastener. No triangle bikini tops and bottoms that tie are allowed.
SWIM BAND - Your child will be given a swim band to wear as a necklace at the pool. This is a safety procedure that helps staff distinguish between swimmers and non-swimmers. Please be sure your child wears their swim band to camp every day. Some counselors keep campers' swim bands at camp.
SUNSCREEN - To help prevent sunburn, it is required that parents apply sunscreen prior to arriving at camp. In addition, parents should provide campers with sunscreen to keep with them throughout the day. Staff will aid children in applying sunscreen before water activities and as needed throughout the day.
What is my child not allowed to bring to camp?
Toys, radios, iPods, electronic games, and cell phones are not allowed at camp. In addition, please leave firearms, fireworks, knives, matches, lighters, tobacco products, expensive items, illegal drugs, money, and trading cards at home. Please do not send money to camp.
