Sign your camper up for one of our many excursions! These excursions allow campers to experience adventures away from camp, led by Adventure professionals and accompanied by our staff. Yet another Thunderbird experience they will never forget!
White Water Adventure
Ages: 11-16
Cost: $150
Sessions: 2, 3, 4, 5
Get an all day unlimited access pass at the US National White Water Center to all of the following: Whitewater Rafting, Canyon Crossing, Climbing, Mega Zip, Mega Jump, Mountain Biking, Adventure Course, Climb 2 Zip, Flatwater Kayaking, Whitewater Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, and Eco Trekking. Sitting on 400 acres, The USNWC is a state of the art recreation center that is home to the world's largest recirculating river. Campers ages 11 and up can partake in this trip and the cost includes transportation, activities, and lunch.
Rock Climbing
Ages: 10-16

Sessions: 2, 3, 4, 5
Climbing is one of the most exciting and challenging activities done at Camp Thunderbird. The sites used for this trip are Stone Mountain, located in North Carolina and Grayson Highlands which is located in Virginia. As with all our programs the climbs are selected with the abilities of the participants in mind. Thunderbird wants to make sure that all participants have the chance to succeed, be challenged and overcome obstacles. Transportation and lunch are provided on this trip. Campers will need to bring their own water bottle.
Caving
Ages: 10-16
Cost: $150
Sessions: 2, 3, 4, 5
Campers will participate in a 1.5 to 2 hour long guided cave tour that will be at a beginning level. Through out the cave campers will have an opportunity to crawl on their hands, knees, and /or belly to complete a passage but if they are not quite ready for that there is an optional walk through for them. Helmets and headlamps will lead the way through these natural formations where you get to encounter mud, small passage ways, and maybe even some bats. Campers will learn everything about caves and their delicate environment.
Campers will need to bring OLD sneakers, a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt, and a pair of long pants. They will also need s change of clothes for after they get out of the cave. They will get very dirty. Transportation, lunch, and dinner are provided so no spending money is needed.
Carowinds
Ages: All
Cost: $125

Join us for a day of fun at Carowinds. Known as the “Thrill capital of the Southeast”, you can take a ride on one of the 13 pulse-pounding roller coasters! This is sure to be a great day of fun hanging out with your new camp friends.
Campers will receive $16.00 of spending money in Carowinds dollars. They will also get a Camp Thunderbird t-shirt to wear in the park to make it easy for campers to stick together with friends. Our counselors travel to the park with campers and there are three designated head check times during their day at the park: before they enter the park, during lunch, and before coming back to camp. Lunch will be provided at the park.
The NASCAR Experience- New for 2012!

Want a full throttle experience? Come join us as Thunderbird takes you on its first ever NASCAR Experience. We will take you to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, located in Charlotte, NC, where you can experience more than 50 hands-on exhibits, video interactive touch screens and games, plus thousands of authentic artifacts and more. Campers will also get to experience one of the local NASCAR race shops. At the race shops campers would experience the ins and outs of NASCAR racing and visit with NASCAR professionals. Transportation and lunch will be provided that day.
NASCAR Ride Along- New for 2012!
Ages: 14-16
Cost: $250
Sessions: 2, 3, 4, 5
Campers travel to Charlotte Motor Speedway to experience real life racing thrills by riding shotgun in a 2-seat NASCAR race car driven by a professional instructor for a 3 lap qualifying run at speeds up to 160mph. Campers will finish up the day by visiting Victory Lane indoor Karting. Victory Lane is a conference center, race facility, and entertainment venue located in the heart of Charlotte, NC. They have a 1/3 mile road course that is the fastest in the Carolinas and one of the fastest in the nation.
