Coastal Leadership Adventure
Camp Thunderbird's Coastal Leadership Adventure (CLA) is geared toward teens age 14-16. A new twist on the Thunderbird experience, CLA will take campers to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and teach them the basic skills of becoming young leaders at camp and in their community. This journey will begin and end at Thunderbird so campers can still experience a taste of traditional camp activities and participate in the bandana ceremony.
While the focus of this trip will be leadership, we will accomplish this in a non-traditional way: tent camping, parasailing, surfing, kayaking, and hang gliding will capture the thrill seeking side of teens. Their minds will be enriched through light house tours, a visit to the Roanoke Aquarium and learning about their coastal environment.
Campers will work as a team accomplishing day-to-day chores and discover new things about themselves while living together as a group. Journaling will be a key focus of this adventure, a great way to capture all of the lessons learned and reflect on their experiences. Each day will end under the stars and close with a traditional Thunderbird devotion.
Our goal is that our Coastal leaders will walk away from this program with the skills to lead small and large groups, become effective team players, and set and achieve goals. This program is truly a different experience than traditional summer camp and one that you will never forget.
